Chocolate Chip Cake

This recipe is based on one I got from my friend Kecia when we both were living in England.  It is GOOD.  It uses both grated chocolate and chocolate chips.

I quite often just top it with sifted powdered sugar.  This time, though, I used a Chocolate Glaze from Cooks Country.

The glaze turned out a little thicker than I would have liked.  Next time, I won’t allow it to cool for the full 25 minutes that the recipe recommends before spreading it on the cake.

Chocolate Chip Cake

  • 1 box yellow butter cake mix
  • 1 c. sour cream
  • 4 eggs
  • 3/4 c. oil
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 bar baking chocolate, grated
  • 6-10 ounces semisweet chocolate chips (I used Ghiradelli)

Mix ingredients (except chocolate) together on low speed of electric mixer for 30 seconds.  Scrape bowl and mix on medium speed for 2 minutes. Fold in grated chocolate and chocolate chips. Pour 12 in tube pan.  Bake about 1 hour at 350 degrees.
